Satellite monitoring of soil salinity around Lake Urmia

Lake Urmia is also one of the areas that in recent years has faced a crisis of water, drought and increasing salinity of the surrounding soils. Salinization of agricultural lands is one of the important problems in this area that should be prevented with proper knowledge.

As a first step in better management of salinity-affected soils, it is necessary to monitor soil salinity to determine in which areas there is a salinity problem and in which direction this salinity is spreading. Due to the importance of this issue, soil salinity map was prepared by processing Landsat 8 satellite images on the shores of Lake Urmia, which results in high salinity in the southern and southwestern margins of the lake.
